What is different about a plain short link
A short link stores nothing, so it is not subject to the 30-day limit that applies to uploaded files — it stays valid until you give it a deadline, a view limit, or delete it. Shortening a URL never makes the server visit the address you paste, and addresses pointing at private or reserved network ranges are refused.
Views are counted per person rather than per request, so the same visitor opening a link twice still counts once. That is what makes a view limit usable as a real limit rather than a rough guess, and it is also what the referrer, country and device figures are built on.
When people reach for a short link
- A link that works once. Set the view limit to 1 and it stops working the moment the person you sent it to has opened it — counted per person, so their second look does not burn it.
- Measuring a campaign. Add UTM parameters to the address you shorten, then read views, referrers, countries and devices back on the management page.

Can a short link have a password?
Yes. Set one when you create the link and the page asks for it before it forwards anyone. You can also give the link a deadline from one minute to 30 days, and cap it at up to 1,000 views — counted per person, so the same visitor opening it twice still counts once. All three work together, and none of them needs an account.
